Full-time mum and midwife, part-time (trying to do better) Muslim. Full-time—well, I guess—girlfriend. Writing "girlfriend" feels weird, though. For context, I’m in my mid-thirties—okay, maybe a bit closer to forty than I’d like to admit—and going through a divorce.

We really need a better word for this. I could say "partner," but that doesn’t quite fit either. Is it just me, or does "partner" sound like you're in a same-sex relationship? Maybe before Islam, I might have explored that path, but that ship has sailed. These days, it’s not an option.
